My name is Evelyn H., I was born in Santa Lucía Milpas Altas, I am the oldest sister. My brother and I are having a hard time continuing our studies. My mother's name is Silma; she only completed sixth grade. She doesn't have a steady job; she does housework when called. Our financial situation has been very difficult, especially since my father left us. Furthermore, my brother is sick, and the medication he needs is very expensive. We have an uncle who supports us with his medication, because otherwise we wouldn't know what to do. My mother can't handle everything alone: education, food, and our health.
My father left us two years ago, and my mother decided to stay alone with us. She is having a hard time raising us. When I grow up, I want to be an Accountant, have an office where I can practice my profession, be a successful, professional woman, and be able to help my mom and brother with their studies so they have everything they need and can do their homework better. My favorite class is Social Studies because I learn more about the history and places in our country. In the mornings, I help with chores around the house because my mom goes to work. I also help by driving my brother to school, I feed him, and sometimes I make his lunch. I've had difficulty completing my homework because I don't have the necessary materials, and sometimes I've lost points for not turning it in properly. I would like to get a scholarship so I can continue my studies. My mom can no longer afford my expenses because they are too high for her. The scholarship would help me get my school supplies, my uniforms, and dedicate myself completely to studying, graduating, and, in the future, help my mom finish our house.
