Biography
My name is Leydy. I was born on March 15, 2013, in the community of Choatalún.
I live with my mother and my two siblings. I am the oldest of the three. Our family situation is complicated, as my mother separated from my father years ago. We used to live with him in the city. However, when they separated, we moved in to maternal grandparents' house, who provided us with a space to live. With some savings, my mother managed to buy sheet metal to build our small room.
My mother didn't have the opportunity to study, as she had to travel to the capital city in search of work from a very young age. Currently, she sells chuchitos (a type of sweet potato), bread, and atol (a type of sweetcorn) on the streets, from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. She works hard to provide food and education for us. My dad is not around because he has another family.
I really like studying and going to school. My favorite subject is math because I like learning about numbers and solving problems. I have many friends at school. My dream is to be a teacher or a nurse because I like helping people in need. In the afternoons, when I get home from school, I do my homework and then help my mom prepare everything she needs for her sale the next day. I like helping her because I know she works hard to give us the best. Despite our situation, my mom is very supportive of my studies. I want a scholarship because I know that only by studying can I become a professional and have a better future to help my siblings and my mom.
