Biography
My name is María. I was born on August 7, 2012, in the community of Jometes, in the municipality of San Martín Jilotepeque.
My family is made up my parents, my two younger sisters, and me. My father managed to complete 9th grade, but couldn't pursue a higher education degree due to a lack of financial resources. My mother is a homemaker; she only completed 3rd grade because she didn't have the opportunity or support to continue her studies. My younger sister is in elementary school, and my youngest sister stays home with my mother.
My parents currently have a small business selling basic medicines, which they distribute to stores in nearby communities. With that income, they manage to cover the household expenses. Although they don't earn much, they want me to continue studying, even though they realize the costs will increase.
My favorite subject is math because it's easy for me to learn numbers. My dream is to be a teacher when I grow up, as I would like to teach new things to the children in my community. In the evenings, I help my mom with chores around the house. I also enjoy sewing, playing, painting, drawing, and cooking. I love learning new and different things. I would like a scholarship so I can fulfill my dream of finishing my studies and, in the future, become a professional. I want to have a good job and be able to support my family.
