Biography
My name is María. I'm from Saquitacaj. I'm the first child in my family.
I live at home with my parents and my three siblings. My father's name is Eusebio, and my mother's name is Amalia. My father is a bricklayer, but he has an illness and doesn't have a secure job. My mother is a homemaker and also works for day labor outside the home, washing other people's clothes or working in the fields. She didn't attend school.
They both support my education, but due to my financial situation, it's difficult for me to cover all my school expenses. I am a girl with a strong desire to study. My dream is to graduate as a nursing assistant because I like working with people, and because of the experience I had with my health last year, I was motivated and realized the importance of doctors. I was ill for almost a year. I am currently still taking medication to completely eliminate my illness.
I study in the mornings; in the afternoons, I go to work at a neighboring store, and with the money I get, I support my mother with household expenses and the purchase of some study materials. My favorite subject is communication and language because I like talking to people and writing. I dedicate three hours a day to completing homework. I work part of the afternoon and evening because, for me, working and earning an income is very important and meaningful for my family. I have many goals and dreams in life, but because of my family's finances, everything is sometimes difficult. This scholarship opportunity will greatly support my education and allow me to achieve my dreams.
