Biography
My name is Walter David López Balán. I was born on March 25, 2013. I am 12 years old and I am from the community of Choatalún, in the municipality of San Martín Jilotepeque.
I live with my mother and sisters. My mother's name is María. She was widowed several years ago, and since then, my family's situation has been very difficult, as we have limited resources. She is the only one who takes care of the household expenses. She sells chuchitos and atol on the streets, but what she earns from her small business is very little.
I only managed to study up to third grade because she didn't have the necessary support to continue. My mother wants me to continue my studies, but she knows that the household expenses will continue to increase, and she can't cover them with the little she earns.
My sister Dalila is in school thanks to a scholarship, and I see her very happy to have the opportunity to continue studying. I have an older sister who works to afford her education, and I see that it's very difficult for her.
My sisters motivate me to keep working hard every day in my studies. I want to continue studying, and I know that through a scholarship I'll have the support I need to excel.
My dream is to earn a degree when I grow up because I'm interested in everything related to justice. My favorite subject is math because I like doing a lot of calculations.
In my free time, I help my mother with whatever I can around the house and I also do my homework. I want to continue my studies so I can support my family and one day have a stable job.
