Biography
My name is Yeimi, and I was born in the village of Quisache, Acatenango. I have five siblings, and I'm the youngest. My siblings didn't graduate from school because my parents don't have enough money. Farm work doesn't bring in much income, and that's why they were only able to study until elementary school. My father, Juan, is a day laborer, and although he works very hard, he doesn't earn enough; even so, he always supports us. My mother, Rubia, is a homemaker and sells cheese to help my father with household expenses. The situation is very difficult, and my siblings dropped out of school when they saw the family's struggles. Because of our struggles, my parents can only support me until I finish elementary school, even though I really want to continue my studies.
My biggest dream is to study to become a teacher so I can support my community and prevent other children from suffering the consequences of not being able to continue their studies due to a lack of financial resources, as happened in my family, where none of my siblings were able to graduate. I really enjoy studying and going to school because it's wonderful to be with my classmates and learn about each of their personalities. My favorite class is Language Arts because reading helps me learn to do things well, and it also allows me to help and teach my classmates. In the mornings, I go to school and always keep up with my homework. Although some assignments are difficult, I do my best. In the afternoons, I do my homework and help my mom with the housework. While we work, she always tells me she wants to support me so I can continue studying, but they don't have the necessary resources. With this scholarship I can continue my studies, fulfill my dreams, and make my mom happy and proud that one of her daughters has achieved her goal, even amidst so many hardships.
