My name is Estefaní, I was born in Antigua Guatemala, and I have four siblings. I'm the fourth of five children. I live in Las Cañas, Santa Lucía. My mom's name is Amalia. She only completed sixth grade, and she works selling tortillas and snacks. My mom recently had some problems that impacted our finances. Besides that, she has to pay rent for the place where we sell tortillas and cover the family's expenses. The house we live in doesn't belong to us; we're currently renting a small house. My dad hasn't lived with us for years; my parents decided to separate, and he doesn't support us financially. My dream is to study Tourism so I can see many places, but above all, so I can have a job and help my mom. My favorite subject is computer science because I learn about technology. In the mornings, I go to school, and when I get home, I help my mom deliver tortillas to different houses. When I don't go to school and on weekends, I help my mom with the snacks. I have four siblings: three older and one younger. We are all currently studying, thanks to the support we've received from COED. Without their support, my sisters wouldn't have been able to continue their studies, and now I need that support too; it's essential for me to receive a quality education. The most difficult time we've experienced as a family was when my mother had some health issues and couldn't work to support us at home. My oldest brother, at the age of 11, had to work as a construction worker's assistant and drop out of school to provide for us. Because of this, he only finished his middle school education this year, and his current job will support him with his studies. My dream is to buy a house and a car so my mother can be comfortable. I want the scholarship because it will be a huge help to my mother and me to have all my school supplies, uniforms, and to be able to pay for my studies. It makes me very happy to know I can have that support.
