My name is Deysi. I was born in the community of Chipila, in the municipality of San Martín Jilotepeque. I live with my mother, my sister, and my grandmother. My family situation has been difficult because my mother is a single mother, and she has always worked hard so that my sister and I wouldn't lack anything. The house where we live belongs to my grandmother because we don't own any land. A few months ago, my grandfather passed away. It was very sad for my family and me because I always saw him as a father figure. I used to help him work in the fields. Now only my grandmother remains, and she loves me very much. I stay with her when my mother goes to work. My mother works cleaning the school in our community, and we survive on her salary. My mother always supports me in my studies; she wants to see me graduate, but it's very difficult for me to continue my studies without some support because we don't have the financial resources. My favorite subject is math because I like solving lots of problems. In my free time, I help my mother at work, or I stay home helping my grandmother with the housework. I dream of becoming a nurse so I can help people in my community. I know that only with the support of this scholarship will I be able to achieve my dreams and goals, become a professional, and help my mother.
